Young Republicans Annouce 2007 GOTV Fundraiser and Grassroots Efforts
Young Republicans across the Commonwealth of Virginia have been working hard over the summer! We have been actively working for our 2007 GOP candidates for State Senate, House of Delegates, as well as those running for local seats such as County Board, County Board of Supervisors or School Board. We also participated in the "America Supports You Walk in Washington, DC." walking with thousands of others that were showing support for our military. Even as young professionals we are establishing new careers or growing current careers, continuing to build businesses, raising families, and still find time to be involved in this very important election cycle. And we hope that will do the same by supporting our very important efforts by joining us at our fundraiser on Tuesday, September 18th in Washington, DC and/or signing up to joining us this fall at www.yrfv.org/DoItInVirginia website.
The Young Republican Federation of Virginia in conjunction with the YR Dominion PAC is proud to announce the “Do It In Virginia! Get Out the Vote Fundraiser.” The event will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Strategic HealthCare Townhouse located at 230 Second Street S.E. in Washington, D.C. from 6:30pm until 8:30pm.
The featured speaker will be United States Representative Lynn Westmoreland. Congressman Westmoreland represents the Third District of Georgia. He currently serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Government Oversight and Reform Committee, and the Small Business Committee. Within the Small Business Committee, he is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Regulations, Health Care, and Trade. Prior to serving in the United States Congress, he served in the Georgia state House for 12 years. While there, he served three years as Republican Leader, playing a major role in delivering a Republican majority in the state House. He will be joined by members of the Virginia leadership.
All monies raised by this event will go towards funding volunteers sent to Virginia by the Young Republican National Federation to assist with the Get Out the Vote efforts for the 2007 races. The Young Republican National Federation announced earlier this month that Virginia was one of the states selected for their 2007 National Deployment Initiative due to the national impact the outcomes here will have leading into a presidential election year. Currently, Republicans hold a narrow lead in the Virginia Senate, which will be responsible for re-districting the state and establishing voting districts that will last through 2020. Recent re-districting has demonstrated its lasting impact not only in the state, but also on how it shapes the national political landscape. The impact of Virginia on the national stage is even more evident after the close loss of Senator George Allen in 2006 that shifted the majority in the United States Senate to the Democratic Party.
Tickets for this event are still available. Any tickets purchased prior to Tuesday, September 18, 2007 will be $35, and all tickets purchased at the door will be $50. Host Committee opportunities are also still available. For more information or to reserve your ticket today, please contact Lori-Ann Miller at yrdominionpac@yahoo.com.
